For the past 19 years, a group of people have gotten together to do what has come to be known as “Turkeys from Heaven”. On Wednesday, December 23rd, we will meet at The Wiregrass Museum of Art, located on Museum Boulevard directly behind The Dothan Civic Center, to smoke turkeys, make green bean casseroles, pack rolls and cranberry sauce and deliver Christmas meals. We have a great time getting a taste of the spirit of Christmas- GIVING TO OTHERS!
If you are interested in helping, either by donating turkeys, dessert, money (it is cheaper to buy the beans and things in bulk!) or your time, we would love it! If you would like to purchase turkeys for this project visit Publix on Ross Clark Circle by Home Depot. They will allow you to purchase turkeys but leave them there to be thawed the morning of the 23rd so they are ready to cook. Just ask at the check out and they will have a barcode to scan for the turkeys. The cost of each turkey is approximately $17. We are going to try to 2,000 meals this year. The names will come from the Salvation Army, The House of Ruth, The Rescue Mission, DHR, Hospice, Red Cross, United Way and local churches. Please contact Rebecca Marsella 797-9376 or firstname.lastname@example.org by December 19th if you are interested in helping or have any names of people who could benefit from the meals. If you would like to work, we will begin cooking at 8 a.m. and the deliveries will begin about 12 noon. If you would like to assist in cooking the turkeys or running a grill contact Harry Hall at mailto:email@example.com or 334-797-9378. We need to know who is bringing what and when you can help so that we will have everything in order for the 23rd.
This is a great way to really get into the Christmas spirit. We will begin the assembly line at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning and keep it going until we are finished!
